AUDIENCE CHOIR EVENT Sing ONE DAY by Matisyahu Ever dreamed of singing at an event where the AUDIENCE BECOMES THE CHOIR ? Here's your chance! WORLD SINGING DAY, CAPE TOWN, 2026. With special guest appearance by Vicky Sampson. Join The Heartsong Collective, in collaboration with Uthando SA, for a unique Audience Choir Experience. Together we'll learn and perform One Day by Matisyahu , in a fun, uplifting evening of music, connection and community. We will also sing Room for Everyone ( the official World Singing Day song for 2026). No previous choir experience is necessary—just bring your enthusiasm and love of singing. Whether you're an experienced singer or simply sing in the shower, you'll be welcomed into an inspiring musical experience where a multitude of voices can come together as one. Click on the Song Title link below to access Google Folders with Scores, Lyrics and Mp3's. ONE DAY by Matisyahu is the main song that we will focus on. Attendees can prepare by choosing a part that feels right for their voice, High Ladies, Low Ladies or All Men, and then listening to the mp3 part while using the Lyric sheet or corresponding score. (no parts) What to expect: We will gather at the Groote Kerk where The Heartsong Collective will collaborate with our sponsored choirs to perform an opening song with our soloists and featured guest Vicky Sampson . The Heartsong Collective will then lead the audience in singing ROOM FOR EVERYONE with the lyrics provided on a screen. As a catalyst for positive human connection, this one day each year serves as an opportunity to celebrate our global family through the international language of music. Founded in 2012 by Colorado (USA) musician Scott Johnson, World Singing Day brings people together in their communities all around the world through the simple act of singing together. World Singing Day is not religious or political, and encourages people to put aside their differences and celebrate what we all share as human beings. World Singing Day is for everyone, regardless of your race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, singing ability, and age. World Singing Day is a joyful community experience for musicians and non-musicians alike, from shower singers to celebrities, as they gather in their communities and sing together without the pressure of performing. ABOUT THE HEARTSONG COLLECTIVE The Heartsong Collective will be hosting this event. The choir was founded in 2023 by Lynne Poulsen and a handful of people ready to sing for change. They have since developed into a community choir embracing people from all walks of life, age groups, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds who love to sing and want to make a difference. They draw from Traditional, Gospel, New Age, and Mainstream Pop to bring you inspiring and uplifting songs. More than a choir, they are a movement of voices united in harmony, purpose, and joy. Bringing people together through uplifting performances, inclusive events, and meaningful collaborations that create lasting impact. Their mission is to deliver compelling performances that inspire and unite, build inclusive musical spaces across cultures and experiences, equip individuals with skills in music, leadership, and personal growth, and create events that raise joy, awareness, and support for communities in need. ABOUT VICKY SAMPSON Some of Vicky’s earliest memories are of living in District Six with her mother and father, Faye and the late Victor Sampson, who was known as South Africa’s “Johnny Mathis.” At the age of six, for reasons she did not fully understand at the time, she was moved from District Six to live with her grandmother in Bishop Lavis. At the age of 11, she rejoined her parents, this time in Hanover Park, where she spent her teenage years before eventually moving to Johannesburg to begin her professional career. From as early as she can remember, Vicky was singing. At around the age of four, she had a little red piano that she would play while singing her heart out. One of her favourite songs was “Send Me No Roses…” She was never shy about performing, whether at family occasions or at school. She simply loved to sing. Although she once dreamed of becoming a doctor or a veterinary surgeon, life ultimately led her into the world of music. She became a performing artist, singer and songwriter — a path she continues to embrace and says she will never give up. Her professional singing career began at the age of 15, when she won a talent competition that her aunt had entered her into. In 1982, she entered Follow That Star, an SABC talent competition. She subsequently performed alongside the overall winners, The Soft Shoes, on their Summer Special Show. When Vicky was 12, her parents divorced. As she began forging her career as a singer, she also took responsibility for caring for her younger brother, Aaron, with whom she has continued to share a close and active relationship. During this period, she joined the Hanover Park Youth and Community Organisation. This became her entry into the world of political and community activism and played a significant role in shaping the person she is today. Much of their activism focused on working with young people in Hanover Park and surrounding communities, raising funds for community-driven initiatives and creating awareness around the need to fight for justice, freedom and democracy in South Africa. She remembers this as a wonderful and formative time in her life. The social consciousness Vicky developed through her activism as a young person continues to inspire her commitment to supporting organisations and causes that make a difference, including the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. She has also offered to serve as an ambassador for Community Action for a Safer Environment (CASE), an organisation established in Hanover Park as a way of giving back to and contributing to the community from which she comes. Vicky is also an ambassador for Uthando SA, based in Harfield Village, Cape Town, and The Million Sisters Club at The Seven Sisters Vineyard in Stellenbosch. She actively supports initiatives that promote peace, safety and access to education. She considers herself a warrior for the rights of those whose voices are often not heard — including the aged, abused children and women, animals and the environment. She believes deeply in the power and ability of women to bring about tangible change, not only in South Africa but across the African continent and throughout the world. Vicky believes that God has blessed her with a voice that can help bring about meaningful change for those who cannot speak for themselves. She continues to cherish and celebrate where she comes from and the experiences that shaped her as a young person. She challenges anyone who says that she should not strive to be the best version of herself and to be proud of who she is. She says, “God has made us in His image, and I see myself as a mirror into which others can look and reflect on who we are and who we can become — if only we can believe in ourselves, have faith in the goodwill of others, and continue to hope, to dream and to work with others to make this world a better place. With God, nothing is impossible! I am proudly South African; I am proudly African; I am proudly human!” ABOUT UTHANDO SA Uthando (Love) South Africa, operating as Uthando Social Development Projects, is an award-winning Public Benefit Organisation, based in Cape Town, South Africa, Their journey started in 2007. Since then, they have managed to raise millions of rands for a broad spectrum of impactful & inspiring community development projects around Cape Town! Their motto is: "Taking Care of People & Planet, which emphasises our focus on helping under-resourced people thrive while ensuring that our planet benefits in the process!"
