Get ready for an inspiring selection of short films from England, Canada, Italy, the United States, South Africa, and France. From the wild Canadian forests to the Italian Dolomites, and from iconic mountain ranges to beloved local trails, this year’s program will take you on a breathtaking journey through the world of trail running. Rooted in the philosophy “Anima Sana in Corpore Sano”, a sound mind in a sound body, it highlights how sport can uplift spirits, foster positivity, and create meaningful impact within individuals and communities. Through inspiring stories and perspectives, the film celebrates movement as a driving force for both physical and mental well-being. Backyard Everest Runtime: 15 minutes Directed by: Rudi Gremels Produced by: Rudi Gremels Language: English Country of origin: South Africa This film follows Karoline Hanks as she takes on an extraordinary Everesting challenge on Chapman's Peak in Cape Town. By running up and down the iconic route 14 times, equivalent to the height of Mount Everest, Karoline pushes her physical and mental limits in support of Project Noordhoeked, a local organization dedicated to keeping the beach, roads, and natural environment clean. More than a personal endurance feat, this challenge becomes a powerful act of community commitment, where every step contributes to protecting and giving back to the place she calls home. Together, Nova and Evan take on the Orcas Island 100 Miler, a demanding 100-mile race marked by harsh winter conditions, relentless elevation, and long nights. The story focuses on Jahir, an Ecuadorian runner born with one leg, as he targets the UTMB OCC race. Through his eyes and with insights from UTMB race organizer, we witness the evolution of trail running and the vital importance of representation on the course. What Remains Runtime: 18 minutes Produced by: Skratch Labs Language: English Country of origin: United States Most stories celebrate the perfect day. What Remains doesn’t. The film follows Adam Peterman and Alice Held as they face the same harsh reality from different perspectives: a race that doesn’t go as planned.
