The Brother Moves On brings their genre-defying live experience to Sankayi. The Johannesburg-based performance ensemble merges music, performance art and political storytelling, moving between jazz, punk, indigenous music and avant-garde performance. Their immersive shows combine improvisation, costume, movement and narrative to create a live experience that is as unpredictable as it is compelling. Founded in 2009 by the late Nkululeko Mthembu and his brother Siyabonga Mthembu, The Brother Moves On has become one of South Africa’s most distinctive and innovative musical collectives. They have toured extensively across Africa and Europe, with performances at the Barbican Centre, Berlin Jazz Festival, Brussels Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and Cape Town International Jazz Festival. Saturday Sessions at Sankayi are about great music, a great crowd and letting the night unfold. Expect The Brother Moves On to bring all of that and more.
