On the 11th of September, A Semblance and Elephants Can Remember will take to the Trenchtown stage, sharing the last Black Math show for an uncertain amount of time. Join us. Say goodbye to our sweet Tyla before he ventures to the North to join Will the Wizard. Nothing is certain but we can guarantee an unforgettable night. Black Math are a 3 piece power-house. Originally from Durban, they formed in 2011 as high school friends making noise for fun and have since performed all over the country. Festivals, concert halls and dive bars. The band now consists of Tyla Burnett (Lead Bass), Cameron Lofstrand (Guitar/Vocals) and Callula Jane Clay-Smith (Drums). They have developed their own unique sound that draws from a variety of genres. From punk and metal to electronic and hip-hop. Their sound is raw, unforgiving and chaotic. A Semblance is a social unit: a group for whom music is part of a broader shared life, full of playing, thinking, laughing, and struggling. It features Ru Slayen (percussion), Nobuhle Ashanti (keys & synth), Rob Scott (bass), Keegan Steenkamp (trumpet), and composer-bandleader Asher Gamedze (drums). Since 2024 they have been tearing the roof off of venues from Muizenberg to Soweto, Windhoek to Brussels. A Semblance’s debut album Of Return was released in February 2026 on NYC-based adventurous music label Northern Spy Records. Elephants Can Remember are a theatrical protest punk duo, with Raeesah Noor-Mahomed (Guitar/Vocals) and Roxy Lincoln (Drums). Their identities as South African femmes of colour grounds their music and they are unafraid to address the socio-political issues that plague our world. Through the band, they draw audiences in and deliver messages in a cacophany of raw sound and rage.
