Siya Makuzeni at Sankayi Jazz Series Sankayi Jazz Series welcomes South African trombone player, vocalist, composer, arranger and producer Siya Makuzeni on Friday, 18 September. The recipient of the 2016 Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Jazz, Makuzeni has built a remarkable career across performance, composition, production and arranging. Her work has seen her collaborate with artists including Themba Mkhize, Khaya Mahlangu, Sibongile Khumalo, Lionel Loueke and Regina Carter, as well as Grammy artists David Murray, Jacky Terrasson and Branford Marsalis. Her musical journey began with the trombone in 1997 in East London and has taken her from the National Youth Jazz Festival to stages and creative projects in South Africa and internationally. Makuzeni's work extends beyond jazz performance into theatre, film and other collaborative projects, including work with William Kentridge and Phillip Miller.
