Recitals at Glenshiel is very pleased to welcome back to Glenshiel the Gauteng Guitar Quartet on 18 October 2026. The Gauteng Guitar Quartet formed in 2024 and is comprised of four of South Africa's leading performing classical guitarists – Dillon Davie, Ryan Kirsten, Jonathan Moolman and Nathalie Roué. Combined, they bring a wealth of experience and musicianship to the concert stage. The GGQ is particularly interested in playing the music of contemporary composers, and has already performed two world premières, with more to come. . . The GGQ will be performing their programme entitled "Breakfast Around the Sun': Antonio Ruiz-Pipó (1934 – 1997) Cancion y Danza (arr. LA Guitar Quartet) John Asmuth (1981 - ) Breakfast Around the Sun Peter Maxwell Davies (1934 - 2016) Farewell to Stromness Roland Dyens (1955 – 2016) - Hamsa Suite - Premiere Nouvelle - Ballade en Fauré - La Pomposa - Sol Lassitude - Tunis, Tunisie Dillon Davie is a versatile fretted instrument musician and music educator based in Johannesburg. He has a Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in classical guitar and contemporary composition from Wits University, where he studied with Reza Khota and Michal George, as well as an Associate of Trinity College London (ATCL). He is also a co-founder of the African Renaissance Ensemble. Jonathan Moolman studied at the University of Pretoria where he completed a Masters degree in guitar performance (2010) with Abri Jordaan. He has also received qualifications in guitar performance (Grd.8 in Guitar with distinction 2006) from Trinity College London and a Teacher’s Licentiate (2007) from the University of South Africa. Ryan Kirsten studied classical guitar at Pretoria Boys High School under Abri Jordaan from 2007-2011 and studied guitar performance at the University of Pretoria under Abri Jordaan from, finishing his MMus in 2020. He is an active performer and teacher, whose accomplishments include recording the Vivaldi Guitar Concerto with the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra in 2019. Nathalie Roué matriculated at Pro Arte Alphen Park, she continued her music studies overseas and was accepted at the Conservatoire National de Versailles in France. She was awarded a four year scholarship to study classical guitar under the tuition of Christian Chanel and cello under the tuition of Barbara Marcinkowska. Nathalie focused on classical guitar as a first instrument and specialized in chamber music and orchestra as a cellist. She completed her DMus degree from the University of Pretoria in 2024. We are also very proud to be continuing our student showcase - bringing in a promising young musician to perform as our opener! Watch this space.
