This is another edition of Carving X Mbatlo workshop run by Artist Collen Maswanganyi. A second workshop to be hosted by Gallery Du Parc at Alliance Francaise , Johannesburg. This workshop coincides with our group exhibition Titled 'What Remains ' The workshop introduces participants to wood carving by experimenting with a unique Mbatlo tool( Adzes) and other carving tools. Carving X initiative started in the year 2022 by Artist Collen Maswanganyi. The initiative is meant to give opportunities to young and upcoming as well to the old and somehow forgotten artists who are no longer in the radar of art lovers, galleries and art dealers. Carving X hosted 3 residencies to date at Nirox sculpture park and has shared a stage with world renowned Mr Xwalectun. The X has a number of meanings like Carving Axe, solve for X, Connexion, Experiment, Experience Explore, Express and many more Please join us to experience any of the above mentioned X. After the Workshop, you will decide whether you want to make a complete carved wooden sculpture.
