Afro Visionary Movie Nights presents: Still My Child In celebration of queer voices and stories , Afro Visionary Movie Nights proudly presents a special screening of Still My Child , a powerful new documentary by acclaimed journalist, filmmaker and founder of Beyond the Margins, Carl Collison . This month's curation honours the resilience, dignity and lived experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community, creating space for empathy, dialogue and understanding through African storytelling. Carl Collison is an award-winning journalist, photographer, filmmaker and researcher whose work has consistently amplified LGBTQIA+ stories from across the African continent. Through his production company, Beyond the Margins , he has become one of the continent's leading voices documenting stories of identity, justice and belonging with honesty, compassion and cinematic depth. For many parents of transgender children, coming to terms with their child's gender identity can be a difficult journey—particularly for fathers. Still My Child follows three South African fathers as they candidly share their experiences of confronting societal expectations, navigating family and community prejudice, and ultimately embracing their children with unconditional love. Their stories offer a moving reflection on family, identity and the transformative power of acceptance. Following the screening, audiences are invited to stay for a live Q&A with filmmaker Carl Collison , offering a unique opportunity to explore the making of the documentary and engage more deeply with its themes of family, identity, acceptance and representation. The evening continues with Afro Visionary Movie Nights' signature afterparty as Ms Party takes over the decks. A trailblazing South African DJ with more than 15 years in the music industry, Ms Party is celebrated for dynamic, genre-spanning sets that bring people together on the dancefloor. Expect an unforgettable soundtrack to close out an inspiring evening of film, conversation and community.
